Rep Walberg Honors Hillsdale Resident with ‘Angels in Adoption’ Award

October 9, 2013

Washington, D.C. –Today Rep Walberg welcomed Hillsdale Resident Heather, Tritchka-Stuchell, and her family to Washington, D.C. to receive the 2013 Angels in Adoption award. Heather was chosen for her advocacy on behalf of the needs of children. She and her husband, Greg, are the parents of Chloe, 11, and Olivia, 9, a special needs child born in Taiwan and adopted by the couple.

"Heather was chosen because of unwavering commitment to children in need and her selfless desire to see their needs met. She has shown she will do whatever is necessary to fight for foster and adopted children, whether that's serving on the board of the local Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) program, or adopting a child as her own. She is more than deserving of this award," said Rep Walberg.

The Angels in Adoption program started in 1999 to honor outstanding individuals who demonstrate a commitment to improving the lives of children in need of permanent, loving homes.

Background:

After a tragic accident took the life of Heather's sister and two of her nephews, she fought for custody of her sister's surviving three sons, ages 2, 5 and 8. Due to legalities, she was unsuccessful and her nephews were placed in what she considered an unhealthy environment. Since then Heather has become aware of the need for child advocates in the court system and has fought hard to defend them.
