Rep Walberg Comments On DOL's Withdrawal Of Youth Ag Rule

January 25, 2013

Upon the Department of Labor announcing the withdrawal of the proposed rule dealing with children under the age of 16 who work in agricultural vocations, Rep. Tim Walberg released the following statement:

“From the beginning, it was clear that the people pushing this rule onto the heartland had never spent time on a family farm. The proposed Youth Ag Rule would have done irreparable harm to farmers in Michigan and I am pleased that the Department of Labor came to its senses and realized the need to protect the rural way of life. I am also extremely appreciative of the all the hard work put forth by the farming community to let the Administration and Congress know that this rule went too far. At a time when government overreach has become commonplace, I was proud to stand with Michigan farmers to defeat this unnecessary policy.”
