McClurg Family from Jackson Honored as Angels in Adoption

October 7, 2015
Press Release
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) recognized Shawn and Sharon McClurg from Jackson as the 2015 Angels in Adoption from Michigan's 7th Congressional District.

The McClurgs were nominated for the award because of their selfless example of giving orphaned children the forever family that they deserve. Since 2011, the McClurgs have adopted five special needs orphans, starting with Rey, 18, Maxim, 14, and Sasha, 11—three siblings from Ukraine. In 2013, they adopted Cora, age 7, from China. Most recently, in June of 2015, they traveled back to China to adopt Min, age 4. The McClurg family also includes two biological sons, Michael, 24, and Shawn, 20.

"It was an honor to meet Sharon and nominate their beautiful family for this national recognition. Despite many obstacles and unexpected challenges, the McClurg's selfless desire to help children in need has provided five wonderful kids with the chance at a new life. The way in which this family has lovingly opened their hearts and home to special needs orphans is an inspiration to us all," said Walberg.

Angels in Adoption is a program of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI) that provides an opportunity for Members of Congress to honor constituents who have enriched the lives of foster children and orphans. The McClurgs were honored at the annual CCAI awards ceremony on October 6 in Washington, D.C. along with other recipients from around the country.
