House Passes Walberg Legislation to Protect Workers and Restore Wages

April 3, 2014

Washington, D.C. – Today the House passed H.R. 2575, the Save American Workers (SAW) Act, legislation introduced by Representatives Todd Young (IN), Tim Walberg (MI), Pete Olson (TX) and Mike Kelly (PA) to repeal the 30-hour definition of "full-time employment" under the Affordable Care Act and replace it with the traditional 40-hour definition. The legislation passed with bipartisan support by a vote of 249 to 179.

"For hourly workers, the difference between 39 hours and 29 hours can equal a week's loss of pay per month – a cut in income that struggling Michigan families and single parents cannot afford. I've heard firsthand from individuals, schools and companies about how repealing this redefinition of full-time employment will protect both employees and provide certainty for employers. I remain committed to working with my colleagues in supporting solutions that protect jobs and grow a healthy economy," said Rep. Walberg following the vote.
