House Passes National Defense Bill with Walberg Amendments Adopted

May 19, 2016

Washington, D.C.
– Congressman Tim Walberg's (MI-07) voted today in support of the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which provides America's military with the resources and support they need to defend our country. The final House-passed legislation also included two of Congressman Walberg's amendments to combat international drug trafficking and save taxpayer dollars. Click here to watch his floor speech.

The first amendment would require the Department of Defense (DOD) to report on the effectiveness of efforts to detect and monitor drug trafficking in Central America, specifically heroin and fentanyl, and identify areas where efforts can be strengthened. The second amendment would ensure the DOD has sufficient access to Afghan government accounts to guarantee effective audits and protect U.S. taxpayer funds from waste, fraud, and abuse.

"Our men and women in uniform make tremendous sacrifices every day for the freedoms we hold dear. At a time of complex and mounting threats to our national security, our troops must have the necessary resources to carry out their missions and protect the American people. This bipartisan legislation increases military readiness and our defense capabilities, gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise, and reduces wasteful spending to ensure taxpayer dollars are used effectively," said Walberg.

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. In addition, he serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
