Grand Ledge High School Student Wins 2016 Congressional Art Competition
Jackson, MI—Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-07) today announced that Carter Gough, who just completed his sophomore year at Grand Ledge High School, is the winner of the 2016 Congressional Art competition for Michigan's 7th District. Carter received first place for his stippling ink drawing entitled "Salvador Dali," a portrait of artist Salvador Dali.
Carter is the son of Jeremy Gough, and his art teacher at Grand Ledge High School is Doris Thompson. His winning artwork will be part of a yearlong display in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol along with other pieces from high school students around the country.
"My office was fortunate to receive a wide array of outstanding submissions from the incredibly talented students that reside in Michigan's 7th District. Congratulations to Carter for displaying such skill and creativity to win the competition. The time and effort Carter poured into his artwork is evident in the final result, as visitors to the U.S. Capitol will get to see in the year ahead," said Congressman Walberg.
Second place was awarded to Noah Schneider, a graduating senior at Jackson Christian High School, for his graphite drawing entitled, "Great Dedication Yields Great Exploration." It is a drawing of Noah's father standing next to his plane, which has given his family many enjoyable days of exploration. Noah is the son of Andrew and Jeanne Schneider, and his art teacher at Jackson Christian High School was Cathy Lehman.
