WWMT: Kalamazoo man recognized as Michigan lawmaker's 'Veteran of the Month'

April 7, 2026

A Kalamazoo County man received recognition Tuesday for being a U.S. lawmaker's pick for "Veteran of the Month."

Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) congratulated and celebrated Michael Fry's contributions and outstanding service as a veteran.

Fry served for 13 years, beginning in 2005, after enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps his senior year of high school.

Fry went on to be a signals intelligence analyst, a special intelligence systems communicator, and was also deployed to Iraq as well as Afghanistan.

Walberg said Fry has gone above and beyond his service.

"Michael Fry's life of service clearly demonstrates the Marine Corps motto of being always faithful," Walberg said. "His leadership working on behalf of American veterans inspires us all. Many others know of my high regard for Michael, as well as my deep gratitude for his lasting contributions to the country we love."

Walberg picks from a list of nominations that he gets on his website.
