May 18, 2017

WASHINGTON D.C. (WTVB) - Michigan 7th District Congressman Tim Walberg, who's district covers Branch County, spoke in honor of fallen Branch County Sheriff Posse Deputy Michael Winter on the U.S. House floor Wednesday.

Winter lost his life in the line of duty almost a year ago when he was thrown off his horse while providing security during the Quincy Memorial Day Parade.

Walberg stated, "Deputy Winter was known as a committed family man with a sense of humor and a big smile. He loved being around horses and he loved the posse. From his time in the United States Navy to the Branch County Sheriff's Posse, Deputy Winter was the type of person who put his community and country before himself. He's a hero in every sense of the word."

Winter's name was added to the National Peace Officers Memorial Wall during a ceremony last weekend in Washington, D.C.. He was one of seven fallen officers from Michigan who were honored.
