WTVB: Walberg backs President on tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China

WASHINGTON, D.C. (WTVB) – President Trump’s issuing of tariffs on goods from Canada, Mexico and China that he announced over the weekend are designed to stem illegal immigration and drug flow into the US.
But Michigan’s economy may take a hit as domestic and foreign automakers will feel the impact of the 25 percent tariffs.
Michigan Republican Congressman Tim Walberg is backing the President.
The Detroit Regional Chamber and its MichAuto affiliate say the tariff’s “will have detrimental effects to our automotive industry in Michigan, the Great Lakes Region, and across the continent.”
MichAuto says the “punitive” tariffs are “counterproductive to commerce.”
The President later announced on Monday that tariffs on Mexico will be put on hold for one month. Trump’s decision comes after he spoke with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
