WTVB: Coldwater's Mary Smith receives tribute before Congress this week
March is Women's History Month and Congressman Tim Walberg has been recognizing some female residents of Michigan's 7th Congressional District who have made a mark in their communities.
Walberg honored Coldwater's Mary Smith on the floor of the U.S. House this week for the many contributions she has made.
He said, "if you live in Branch County, you know Mary. She's family."
Walberg mentioned her countless hours of volunteering at the Community Health Center of Branch County over the last 40 years and her efforts to restore the Tibbits Opera House.
Smith will turn 101 in June.
Walberg also hosted dozens of the original "Rosie the Riverters" to celebrate their work during the Second World War.
He also honored April Demers in an op-ed piece for her work with the Monroe County Substance Abuse Coalition.
