WLNS: Summit Township water project moving forward

February 6, 2026

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg (MI-05) visited Summit Twp. Friday to discuss water system upgrades that are now receiving $750,000 in federal funding.

The money was allocated by legislation signed into law by President Trump last month and will be used to address water pressure and flow issues.

Walberg says the needs in the township met the federal standards to secure financial support.

“We only get 15 to put before the appropriations committee and the individual cardinals of the subcommittees, and this was one that met that standard,” Walberg said. “It has a federal nexus, proximity to what goes on in other parts of the country, and the needs.”

Summit Township Supervisor John Griffin says the needs for water upgrades isn’t new and the system has been aging for decades. He tells 6 News a new well station, water main, and booster station will help improve the community’s water flow.

Walberg says this funding is about acting now before problems grow even larger or more costly.

Griffin says these improvements strengthen the overall water capacity of the township and nearby communities.

If things stay on track in Washington, Walberg says construction on the water upgrades could begin as early as this spring.
