WLNS: GM celebrates 2 millionth Delta Twp. Plant car
September 11, 2015
A milestone was reached Friday as a very important car rolled off GM's production line in Lansing.
The crowd celebrated as the 2016 Buick Enclave rolled off with fresh white paint and a shiny grill.
This car marks the 2 millionth vehicle built at the Lansing- Delta Township.
According to General Motors officials, it's more than hot wheels; it's a reflection of Michigan employees hard work and dedication.
"This directly reflects the great hard work of all of you, the dedication that we have every day of making good vehicles," Mike Trevorrow, GM Lansing Regional Plant Manager said as he spoke to the hundreds of employees in the crowd.
Mayor Virg Bernero said he couldn't be more proud, and GM's success is an integral part of Greater Lansing's economy.
"You're talking about thousands of workers between the General Motors workers and the suppliers and all of those connected with GM. But then, all of these workers, GM is putting money in their pockets and they're spending in this region." Mayor Virg Bernero of Lansing said.
The first car built by Lansing Delta Township was in 2006 and now nine years later U.S. Representative Tim Walberg says it's good to reflect on Lansing's success during hard economic times.
"Oh it's special. When you think of the time period it has come through, downturn of the economy, tough times on the auto industry, and in only a little less than nine short years we've had 2 million quality vehicles roll off this line" said Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI), 7th District.
"We're competing in a hyper, competitive environment, a hyper, competitive field of autos. All of the competition is getting better all the time and yet these cars are in demand around the world. We have some of the most productive workers in the world right here in Lansing, Michigan," Mayor Virg Bernero said.
GM plans on investing more than $580 million into the Lansing Delta Township facility.
