WLEN: Walberg presses Whitmer on school choice program

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg is pushing Michigan to join a new federal tax credit scholarship program.

The program was created under the One Big Beautiful Bill, which lets taxpayers claim credits for donations funding private, public or homeschool expenses. Indiana and Ohio have already opted in.

Michigan’s State Board of Education has voted to oppose the program, citing the state’s constitutional ban on school vouchers.

Governor Whitmer says she’s still awaiting federal guidance and must decide before leaving office in January 2027.
