The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Environment Subcommittee held a hearing June 3.
The hearing discussed Representative Tim Walberg’s Choice in Automobile Retail Sales, or CARS, Act. The Michigan Republican says the bill would block future EPA vehicle emissions rules he argues function as electric vehicle mandates.
However, the Biden administration’s 2024 emissions standards did not require consumers to buy EVs, instead setting fleet-wide pollution limits that EPA projected would significantly increase EV sales.
Walberg says the legislation is needed to prevent future regulations he believes would raise costs and limit consumer choice.
