WKZO: Walberg co-authors legislation to require a federal broadband strategy

Michigan 5th District Congressmen Tim Walberg, who serves as a co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Rural Broadband Caucus, says he’s pushing for a better federal strategy to close what he calls “the digital divide.”
Republican Walberg Wednesday joined with Democrat Congressman Scott Peters of California to introduce the Proper Leadership to Align Networks (PLAN) for Broadband Act.
They say the legislation would require the Administration to develop and implement a national strategy on broadband, and is based on a Government Accountability Office report that found federal broadband efforts are fragmented and overlapping.
Walberg says a national broadband strategy would ensure funds to provide service are reaching the unserved and underserved.
