WJR: U.S. Education Secretary Linda McMahon Visits High School in Detroit

September 9, 2025

U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon took an unpublicized visit to a Detroit high school Monday amid scrutiny of her performance in her role and perceived aversion to public education.

As part of a tour visiting schools in all 50 states, McMahon paid a visit to Renaissance High School in Detroit to hear feedback from students and teachers, while also promoting parental “freedom” in education paths, Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Education Savannah Newhouse told WJR. However, the visit comes as education advocates scrutinize McMahon for her support of private charter schools, having recently increased the Charter Schools Program fund by $60 million, and accusing her of carrying out President Donald Trump‘s agenda of dismantling the Department of Education.
