WILX: Congressman Walberg invites local student to State of the Union

LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - The State of the Union is Tuesday.

Monday, Congressman Tim Walberg of Michigan's 7th District, announced that he has invited a local student to to be his guest at the event.

Haley Petrowski goes to Adrian College where she is a cyberbullying prevention advocate.

She speaks out about cyberbullying based on personal experience to raise awareness about the issue.

She also works on anti-bullying legislation with the Michigan Legislature.

“Having recently met with Haley, I am inspired by her courage and commitment to helping others in our community,” said Congressman Walberg. “Cyberbullying is an issue that too often is overlooked but has a major impact on many young people at critical junctures in their life. By using her story and her platform to shine a much-needed light on this problem, Haley is already making a big difference—and is destined for even bigger things.”

Haley also provided a statement: 

“I would like to thank Congressman Walberg for listening to my story and for the honor of being his guest at the State of the Union. Social media is a constant presence in our daily lives, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my journey and highlight our anti-cyberbullying efforts in Michigan. It is my hope the dark times I experienced can help foster greater understanding and encourage those who are struggling,” said Haley Petrowski.

The State of the Union takes place in Washington D.C. on Feb. 5 at 9 p.m. on all broadcast networks.

At the address, President Trump will lay out his agenda in front of a joint session of Congress for his third year in office.
