South Michigan News: Walberg welcomes Michigan constituents to Washington for nation's 250th anniversary

Congressman Tim Walberg welcomed constituents from southern Michigan to the nation’s capital last week in honor of America’s 250th anniversary, according to a July 7 statement. During their visit, Walberg led families on tours of the U.S. Capitol Building and discussed the country’s history.

“It was an honor to spend time with families from across southern Michigan and join them in reflecting on America's rich history and storied heritage,” said Tim Walberg. “As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our nation's founding, it is important to remember the freedoms our nation was founded on and the values that continue to unite us. I hope that these families' visits to our nation's capital help deepen their appreciation for the resilience, ideals, and aspirations that have carried our nation through 250 years. Michigan residents like them will continue to play an integral role in driving America forward and helping us preserve the traditional values and spirit of freedom that have defined our nation.”

Walberg invited constituents to view pictures and videos from recent tours, as well as seek assistance booking tours of federal sites including the U.S. Capitol Building, White House, FBI Headquarters, among others.

Tim Walberg is currently serving in Congress representing Michigan’s 5th district after replacing Mark Schauer in 2011; he previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999, according to his office. Walberg was born in Chicago in 1951, lives in Tipton, and graduated from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The congressman said he hopes these experiences will help foster a deeper appreciation for American history among visitors.
