South Michigan News: Walberg-backed Farm, Food, and National Security Act passes House

Congressman Tim Walberg voted for the Farm, Food, and National Security Act on Apr. 30. The legislation authorizes farm programs for the next five years to support farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers across the country.
The bill aims to provide regulatory certainty for interstate commerce, improve risk management tools for specialty crop producers, lower energy costs for rural families, and promote American commodities in global markets. Supporters say these measures are important to help farmers manage ongoing challenges in agriculture.
“America’s hardworking farmers deserve policies that reflect the realities they face today,” said Rep. Walberg. “This Farm Bill builds on the successes of the Working Families Tax Cuts, which provided the largest investment in American farmers in at least a generation, to ensure farmers have the tools they need to thrive. Michigan farmers feed and fuel the world, and this Farm Bill brings much-needed certainty to the producers who keep America’s food supply strong.”
The legislation includes reauthorization of key farm bill programs covering conservation efforts, rural development initiatives such as broadband expansion and water infrastructure upgrades, research funding aimed at precision agriculture innovation, export promotion programs designed to expand market access abroad by reducing trade barriers for U.S. products, improved credit access for young or beginning producers entering farming or ranching careers as well as investments supporting rural health care access and workforce development.
