South Michigan News: President Trump signs Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act; Walberg supports new school nutrition law

Today, President Trump signed S.222, known as the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2025, into law. The legislation aims to allow schools to offer whole milk as part of their meal programs.
Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) commented on the signing. He stated: “This notion that whole milk consumption is linked to childhood obesity is deeply flawed. In fact, many school children are at risk of dairy underconsumption—not overconsumption. Whole milk is a preferred choice that provides essential nutrients that support healthy growth and developing minds. I’m glad to see this administration taking steps to align nutrition standards with what modern science and research clearly show.”
The new law reflects ongoing discussions about school nutrition standards and the role of dairy in children's diets.
