South Michigan News: Congressman Walberg honors Grass Lake veteran James Ducey for June recognition

Congressman Tim Walberg recognized James Ducey of Grass Lake as the Veteran of the Month for June, according to a June 15 announcement. Walberg presented Ducey with the Congressional Record containing remarks honoring his service and dedication to the country.

James Ducey enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1966, serving in the 341st Civil Engineering Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, Montana. He served until 1970, achieved the rank of Sergeant E-4, and was awarded both the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon and Good Conduct Medal.

After leaving active duty, Ducey continued serving his community by joining Grass Lake American Legion Post 252. He was appointed Adjutant in 2018 and led annual Memorial Day celebrations and post activities through 2025. His leadership included chairing both the American Legion Fireworks Committee and July 4th Parade alongside Grass Lake Sportsman Club. He has also held other leadership positions, such as appointments to the Department Finance Committee and Secretary of the Department’s Internal Affairs Committee.

Walberg's office is accepting submissions for its Veteran of the Month program, which recognizes exemplary contributions by veterans living in Michigan's 5th Congressional District each month. To nominate a veteran from Michigan's 5th District for this honor, residents can complete an online nomination form.

Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district since replacing Mark Schauer in Congress in 2011; he previously served from 1983–1999 in Michigan’s House of Representatives after graduating with a BA from Taylor University, according to Congressman Tim Walberg's office.
