South Michigan News: Chairman Walberg issues statement on President Trump’s first year achievements

January 20, 2026

Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) released a statement on President Trump’s first year in office, highlighting what he described as progress for students and the workforce.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, American students and our workforce are thriving. Republicans and the Trump administration are cutting red tape and restoring parents’ rights, helping expand charter schools, and right-sizing the Department of Education so we can empower states to lead. Similarly, President Trump is putting workers and businesses first by pushing pro-growth policies that end the regulatory mayhem of the Biden-Harris administration which stifled opportunity and economic growth.

“Under the leadership of Republicans and the Trump administration, we’re putting the American people—not bureaucrats—first. President Trump has gotten a lot done in the past year and I am excited to continue working with him to help students, families, and workers succeed.”

Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Mark Schauer. Before his time in Congress, Walberg served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951, Walberg currently resides in Tipton. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
