Politico: Walberg probes medical schools over their campus antisemitism response

House Education and Workforce Chair Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) is pressing three prominent medical schools to detail their response to alleged campus antisemitism, as part of an ongoing offensive by congressional Republicans that has scrutinized higher education institutions and hauled their officials before Congress.

In letters sent Monday to the leaders of the University of Illinois, University of California, San Francisco, and University of California, Los Angeles’ medical schools, Walberg suggested each institution may have failed to address antisemitism in a manner that adheres to federal civil rights law.

“As you know, postsecondary institutions that receive federal funds must maintain a safe learning environment and fulfill all obligations under Title VI and its accompanying regulations,” Walberg said in letters that listed a series of allegations against each institution concerning campus protest activity, plus faculty and student conduct, related to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza.
