Monroe News: Walberg named to technology panel in House

January 22, 2019

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, recently was appointed to a new House of Representatives subcommittee for the country's 116th Congress.

Walberg, a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, was appointed to the board's Subcommittee on Communications and Technology Friday. He also will continue on the energy committee.

"Having a seat on the Communications and Technology Subcommittee gives our district an even stronger voice on the issues that impact their daily lives," Walberg said. "It is critical Michigan remains a leader in innovation and citizens in rural communities have the ability to succeed in the 21st Century economy.

"In this next term, I look forward to advocating for solutions to improve our nation's communications infrastructure, expand access to high- speed broadband and spur technological breakthroughs and economic opportunity."

The communications and technology committee has jurisdiction over issues related to electronic communications; emergency and public safety communications; cybersecurity, privacy and data security; and the Federal Communications Commission, among other topics.

"Since joining our committee, Congressman Walberg has proven himself to be an effective and top-notch legislator," said U. S. Rep. Greg Walden, R-Oregon, Energy and Commerce Republican Leader. "I'm confident Tim will bring that same results-oriented leadership to the Communications and Technology Subcommittee as we continue to champion policies that foster innovation and close the digital divide."
