The Monroe News: Road Commission to receive $2 million to work on 48 bridges

February 11, 2026

Monroe County Road Commission will receive $2 million in federal funds to work on 48 county bridges. Project bidding is expected to begin in late 2026.

The bridges are in 14 townships: Ash, Bedford, Berlin, Dundee, Erie, Exeter, Frenchtown, LaSalle, London, Milan, Monroe, Raisinville, Summerfield and Whiteford, said Matthew Snell, director of engineering/county highway engineer for the Monroe County Road Commission.

"There are no bridges included that require significant rehabilitation or structural work. The Monroe County Road Commission has specifically packaged these bridges together, as they are due for preventive maintenance," Snell said. "The primary focus will be to install epoxy overlays or asphalt overlays on these bridges to preserve or restore their traffic-wearing surfaces. Some will need minor concrete patching prior to these wearing surface overlays being placed."
