Jackson Cit Pat: Jackson County students nominated for U.S. military academy appointments

JACKSON, MI – Three Jackson County graduates are among six students nominated by U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg for appointment to U.S. military academies.

Walberg, R-Tipton, represents Michigan's 7th District.

The Jackson County students receiving nominations from him and offers of admission to a U.S. military academy are:

Duncan Farrant – U.S. Naval Academy. He is the son of Billy and Cindy Farrant and a Hanover-Horton High School graduate.

Nathanial Lavery – U.S. Air Force Academy. He is the son of Dr. Kevin and Katie Lavery and a Jackson High School graduate.

Bradford Isenhour – U.S. Air Force Academy. He is the son of Lt. Cols. Steven and Michelle Isenhour and a graduate of James O'Neill High School in New York.

To be nominated, applicants must complete a file including an application, school transcript and test scores, resume, essay and letters of recommendation. Academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character, motivation and the results of an interview also are taken into consideration.

"Michigan is filled with some of the best and brightest young leaders our country has to offer, and these students are shining examples of success in the classroom and in the community," Walberg said in a press release. "I congratulate these young men and women on receiving such a prestigious appointment, and our nation is forever grateful for their commitment to military service in the years to come."
