Hillsdale Daily News: Walberg votes for Email Privacy Act

May 2, 2016
Congressman Tim Walberg (R-Tipton) voted Wednesday for the Email Privacy Act, bi-partisan legislation to strengthen and modernize the nation's electronic communications laws that were first enacted in 1986.

The bill would enhance privacy protections for consumers and require the government to obtain a warrant in order to access online communications stored by a third-party service providers.

"Technology has advanced dramatically since 1986, and our obsolete digital privacy laws need to be updated to reflect the realities of the 21st century," Walberg said. "The Email Privacy Act is an essential step to protect Americans' emails from government intrusion and uphold our individual liberties guaranteed under the Constitution."

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Education and the Workforce Committee as Chair of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee. In addition, he serves on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.
