Detroit Free Press: Rep. Tim Walberg responds to Temple Israel attack in West Bloomfield

March 13, 2026

Tim Walberg joined Michigan lawmakers and other elected leaders in denouncing antisemitism and terrorism immediately after a March 12 incident involving a man who rammed a vehicle into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield.

The man was shot at by security personnel, according to Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, and is dead. The only other injury was a security guard struck by the vehicle and knocked unconscious, according to Bouchard. The guard is expected to recover.

Police hadn't yet released a motive for the attack the afternoon of March 12.

U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, said "attacking a place of worship is despicable, and I firmly stand with the Jewish community in Michigan."
