Coldwater Daily Reporter: Congressman Tim Walberg honors Coldwater Vet Rod Fikel on Veterans Day

November 13, 2025

Congressman Tim Walberg, the Republican from Michigan's fifth district, planned to hand Rod Fikel of Coldwater his office's Veteran of the Month Club on Veteran's Day.

Due to flight delays and a call to return to Washington to vote on ending the government closure, his award was announced over the phone to the Branch County Veterans office on Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Fikel, 55, a U.S. Army veteran who served as a Combat Documentation Specialist from 1989 to 1996, with deployments to Kuwait and Iraq, worked as a volunteer in the Coldwater Veterans' office until military medical issues sidelined him in the last year.

Walberg applauded Fikel.

"Rod has shown remarkable perseverance in the face of adversity. Despite being diagnosed with cancer, he's remained strong and in high spirits, and continues to offer support to the veteran community," he said.
