Bloomberg Government: House Republicans Move to Codify Education Department Transfers

Republican House members have unveiled a legislative package that would enshrine into law the Trump administration’s moves to shift core Education Department functions to other agencies.

The 10 bills would relinquish the secretary of Education’s key powers and responsibilities to other federal departments.

Those agencies are “better equipped to carry them out while maintaining continuity for students and stakeholders,” Education and Workforce Committee Chair Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) said in a Thursday statement.
