Adrian Daily Telegram: Vietnam veterans to be honored during Lenawee County Fair

July 11, 2016
State Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Ida, and U.S. Rep. Tim Walberg, R-Tipton, will co-host a Vietnam veteran lapel-pinning ceremony at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the band shell at the Lenawee County Fair and Event Grounds, 602 N. Dean St., in commemoration of the 50-year anniversary of the Vietnam War.

The event coincides with Veteran's Day at the fair. All veterans will get into the fair for free.

The ceremony is made possible by the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

A Vietnam War Commemorative Lapel Pin will be provided to any U.S. veteran who served on active duty at any time from Nov. 1, 1955-May 15, 1975, regardless of location.

"Michigan's Vietnam veterans served our country with honor, yet they were often forgotten when they returned home," Zorn said. "I have already hosted several emotional events to give long-overdue recognition to the Vietnam War era veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. Due to the overwhelming number of veterans who came out to the first event on June 20, I am happy to announce we will be holding another ceremony and I invite all interested residents and veterans to join us."

"We are forever indebted to those who answered America's call and dutifully served our country during the Vietnam War," Walberg said. "It is an honor to participate in this pinning ceremony as we offer local veterans the recognition and respect that has been so deeply earned. After 50 years, this tribute is long overdue."
