Congressman Tim Walberg says motorcycle riders could soon have expanded access to national parks after the U.S. House approved his America the Beautiful Motorcycle Fairness Act.
The legislation would amend the Federal Recreation Land Enhancement Act and require the Secretary of the Interior to issue guidance allowing one America the Beautiful Annual Pass to admit two motorcycles into national parks.
Walberg, a longtime motorcycle rider, said the change is intended to give motorcyclists the same access that other park visitors receive.
“As a lifelong motorcycle rider, I’ve experienced firsthand the joys of riding on two wheels through our scenic national parks,” Walberg said in a statement. “As America celebrates its 250th birthday, this legislation will ensure motorcycle enthusiasts across the country have fair access to our national parks and public lands.”
Supporters say the measure would also benefit communities that rely on tourism near national parks.
The American Motorcyclist Association praised the House for passing the bill.
AMA Board Chair Tom Umphress said restoring the policy allowing two motorcycles per pass is meaningful as the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
“Motorcycling is a fundamental part of our culture symbolizing independence, freedom, and the American spirit,” Umphress said.
Previously, the America the Beautiful Annual Pass allowed two individuals to share the pass. However, the policy was changed in 2024 to allow only one person to be listed on the pass, eliminating the option for two motorcyclists to share it.
Walberg’s legislation aims to restore that access for riders visiting national parks and other federal recreation lands.
