Welcoming Robert Vieira Home

Welcoming Robert Vieira Home

I had the opportunity to meet with Robert Vieira, a constituent of mine who was wrongfully detained in Tunisia for over a year. My team of caseworkers and I had coordinated with the Trump administration to help secure his release and safely bring him back home. Robert has been reunited with his family, and I was honored to welcome him home. If you need casework assistance, please contact my office at (517) 780-9075 or visit walberg.house.gov.

On Wednesday, the Education and Workforce Committee held a hearing on antisemitism with the presidents of Haverford College, DePaul University, and Cal Poly. Following the October 7 attack, we have seen a rise in antisemitism on college campuses across the country. We’ve held and will continue to hold these universities accountable as they choose to stand idly by rather than meaningfully address the harassment of and discrimination against Jewish students on their campuses. I also joined DePaul student Michael Kaminsky and Representatives Lisa McClain (R-MI), Burgess Owens (R-UT), and Randy Fine (R-FL) for a press conference ahead of the hearing. Please know that I will continue to work with my colleagues to enact policies that create a safe environment for Jewish students. Read more in my op-ed here

This week, I participated in the Natural Resources Committee's markup of their portion of the one big, beautiful bill. The plan, which was advanced by the committee, would generate more than $18.5 billion in new revenue and savings for the American people by unleashing domestic energy production and responsibly managing our wealth of natural resources. These measures will help deliver on President Trump's America First agenda to make our nation energy dominant. The U.S. produces energy that is safer, cleaner, and more efficient than any other country, and we must secure American energy dominance into the future.

I recently supported resolutions to overturn California's de facto electric vehicle (EV) mandates. California had previously been granted a waiver by the Biden-Harris administration allowing them to ban sales of new gas, diesel, and hybrid vehicles and mandate 100% electric vehicle sales by 2035.  This mandate would not only affect vehicles in California but nationwide, as automakers would be forced to conform their entire vehicle fleets to meet these extreme regulations. The future of the automotive industry should not be dictated by excessive regulations by California bureaucrats but rather shaped by consumer preferences and innovation. You can read more about my efforts to uphold consumer choice so families can choose the vehicle best suited for their needs in my recent op-ed.

2025 Congressional App Challenge

The 2025 Congressional App Challenge is now underway! I would like to extend an invitation to all middle and high school students in Michigan's 5th District to create and submit an original app for a chance to win. It’s a wonderful opportunity for students to explore and enhance their computer science skills.

All apps must be submitted by October 30th. For more information, please visit walberg.house.gov or https://www.congressionalappchallenge.us/. I look forward to seeing the creativity and ingenuity displayed by Michigan's 5th District!
