 Welcome to Michigan's 5th District!

It was an honor to be sworn in as a member of the 118th Congress, proudly representing and serving Michigan’s 5th Congressional District which includes the counties of Branch, Cass, Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Monroe, St. Joseph, and parts of Berrien, Calhoun, and Kalamazoo. Prior to taking office, I served as a pastor in both Michigan and Indiana, and I also have experience working in education. My top priority in Congress is to serve the best interests of my constituents by reversing the failed policies of the Biden administration. I look forward to working with my colleagues to fight inflation, strengthen our economy, uphold public safety, and unleash domestic energy production.

Repealing Supercharged IRS

This week, I voted in favor of H.R. 23, the Family and Small Business Taxpayer Protection Act, which became the first piece of legislation passed by the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives. The bill rescinds tens of billions of dollars in funding for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to hire 87,000 new agents. Americans deserve a government that works for them, not against them by targeting the middle class and low income families with new audits. I will continue to work to hold the Biden administration accountable and lessen the burdens hardworking families across Michigan’s 5th District are facing.

Protecting our Strategic Petroleum Supply (SPR)

On Thursday, I voted in support of legislation I originally cosponsored, H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act. This bipartisan bill prevents the Secretary of Energy from selling oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) to any entity associated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The Biden administration’s reckless decision to sell over one million barrels of oil from the SPR to a CCP-affiliated company poses a threat and I applaud the House passage of H.R. 22. Please know I will continue to work with my colleagues to unleash domestic energy production and bring down energy prices for hardworking Americans.

Addressing Illicit Substance Crisis

As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I participated in a roundtable with my Republican colleagues to discuss America’s crisis with fentanyl and other illicit substances. This crisis has cut short too many lives of our friends and neighbors, including my friend, Chris Risner. Our committee remains committed to bringing this crisis to the forefront, offering solutions, and pursuing efforts to keep our communities safe.

Condemning Attacks on Pro-Life Organizations

This week, I took to the House floor to speak in support of H.Con.Res. 3, which condemns the epidemic of attacks on pro-life and faith-based organizations. Unfortunately, Michigan’s 5th Congressional District has experienced these attacks firsthand. I have talked to volunteers at pregnancy centers who are fearful of similar attacks occurring, although they remain committed to their convictions and efforts. The House adopted the resolution, and I remain continued to standing up for the sanctity of life.
