On Wednesday, I was invited to the White House to witness President Trump sign the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act into law. As Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee, I have been working closely with the President to ensure that our nation’s youth have the skills necessary to succeed and to create both job and economic growth. President Trump visited Michigan earlier in the week to discuss how policies, like the Working Families Tax Cuts, are supporting our manufacturing and automotive industry. Companies are now investing billions in American facilities, creating good-paying jobs and strengthening supply chains in Michigan. Our manufacturing sector is part of what makes Michigan so great, and I am glad President Trump recognizes the importance of this vital industry.
Protecting Women's Sports
On Monday, I visited the Supreme Court to join brave women as they fight to protect the future of women's athletics. Over 50 years ago, Congress passed Title IX to ensure that women and girls would have equal opportunities both in the classroom and in athletics, and female participation in sports has drastically increased ever since. However, the Biden-Harris administration pursued a radical regulatory scheme allowing biological males to participate on women’s sports teams. Last year, under my leadership as Chair, the House passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to strengthen Title IX's protections for women and ensure a safe and level playing field for female athletes.
This week, the House passed the Protecting Prudent Investment of Retirement Savings Act, which I helped usher through the Education and Workforce Committee. The Biden-Harris administration put the retirement security of millions of Americans at risk when it implemented a rule that enabled and encouraged retirement plan fiduciaries to consider or choose investments based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors. This critical legislation ensures that financial institutions are focused on maximizing returns in retirement plans rather than on ESG factors. Please know that I remain committed to protecting the retirement savings of workers, retirees, and their families.
Visiting Bronson
On Friday, I had the opportunity to visit Bronson City Hall to discuss the funding I secured for improvements to Bronson’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. Over the past year, I have been working with community leaders to identify needs throughout the district and secure funding from the federal government to address them. As a result of our efforts, Bronson will receive funds to improve the resiliency of its wastewater system and ensure it is able to meet the ever-growing needs of residents and businesses within the community. Thanks for letting me stop by!
I recently held a community gathering in Monroe to provide an update on my legislative efforts and to hear about the issues that matter most to you. During the gathering, we discussed my efforts as Chair of the Education and Workforce Committee to reduce health care costs for hardworking families. In December, the House passed my bill, the Association Health Plans Act, as part of the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act. This vital legislation will improve access to quality health care by allowing small businesses and their employees to band together to leverage greater bargaining power and offer coverage options at lower prices. The larger package also lowers premiums by over 11% to make life more affordable for Michiganders.
