Visiting our Students

I enjoyed stopping by Triumph Academy, a charter school in Monroe, and speaking with the students. As Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, I remain committed to supporting school choice so that every child, regardless of income and zip code, can receive a quality education that is suited to his or her needs. Allowing parents to choose between public, private, charter, or homeschool education grants families the flexibility necessary to fulfill the individual needs of their children. By empowering parents to make decisions based on their child’s unique skills and talents, we can ensure that every child is able to thrive.

Supporting Local Farmers

I had the opportunity to tour Ruhlig Farms in Carleton and Eagle Creek Fishing Company's trout farm in Jackson. During the visits, I was able to learn more about the critical work they do each day to feed our communities. We also were able to discuss removing burdensome regulations that drive up the costs of inputs and extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to provide more certainty for farmers and producers.

On Thursday, I visited Arcosa Shoring Products in Union City, an industry leader in trench shoring and shielding equipment. I enjoyed discussing the future of American manufacturing including increasing domestic production so that we can power our economy forward. By expanding our manufacturing base, we can create more good-paying jobs.

This Saturday, April 26 is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Proper disposal of unused prescription drugs helps to prevent misuse and helps keep our communities safe. I encourage residents of Michigan’s 5th District to participate by taking stock of their medicine cabinets and safely disposing of any expired or unneeded medications by dropping them off at a prescription take back site near them between 10am and 2pm. For a list of locations that are participating, please click here.
