Title 42 and the border

Hearing from YouDuring this district work period, I held gatherings in Jonesville, Hudson, and Frenchtown Township to hear from residents of each of these communities. One of the main concerns raised during these meetings revolved around the border crisis and Biden Administration’s plan to end Title 42. March set the record for the highest number of illegal border crossings that the Department of Homeland Security has ever faced within a monthly period. The administration has already proven its inability to control the crisis at the southern border, and ending Title 42 will further overwhelm U.S. border agents, sacrificing the safety of Americans. |
Meeting with Local Farm BureausRecently, I had the opportunity to meet with members of the Lenawee Farm Bureau, and the Hillsdale Farm Bureau. During both meetings, we spoke about farmers’ concerns on inflation which has increased every month under the Biden Administration. The cost of fertilizer remains a concern and unless action is taken, food prices could spike in the future. I remain committed to supporting our farming community, and I am thankful for opportunities, like these meetings, to hear their feedback. |
Visiting Danny’s in MonroeThis week, I visited Danny’s Fine Foods in Monroe where we spoke about the inflationary pressures affecting food prices. The inflation rate most recently hit another 40-year high of 8.5% in April. Excessive government spending has exacerbated the issue, generating financial stress for all Americans and impacting many even beyond the pocketbook but into other areas such as nutrition. |
Meeting with Northwest SchoolsAs a member of the Education and Labor Committee, I recently sat down with Geoff Bontrager, the Superintendent of Northwest Community Schools in Jackson. We discussed the ways in which we can create and strengthen a skilled workforce to further improve the quality of education offered by our school systems. I believe it is critical that students are given the proper educational tools to set them up for success in the future, and I am encouraged by Superintendent Bontrager’s hard work |
Honoring our VeteransSince 2005, the Honor Flight Network has worked to commemorate and honor America’s veterans by inviting them on a trip to the nation's capital. During their time on the trip, veterans are given the opportunity to visit the memorials dedicated to their service. This past week, I had the privilege of signing onto a letter requesting that the U.S. Department of the Interior resume the police escort system that provides these veterans with necessary accessibility assistance. I firmly believe these men and women deserve our utmost respect for their sacrifice to keep our citizens safe. |
