Biden's Summer of Inflation

In June, inflation reached another 40-year high of 9.1%. President Biden's policies have hampered our supply chain, increased inflation, and contributed to sky-high gas prices. Recently, I wrote an op-ed published in The Detroit News which calls on the Biden Administration to unleash domestic energy production, make tax relief permanent, and review burdensome regulations that are hurting our small businesses. Gas Prices Impacting Local Businesses

On Monday, I had the opportunity to visit Deb's Floral Designs in Monroe to hear how small businesses like her own are struggling with high gas prices. I appreciate hearing the concerns of small business owners and being able to discuss how to ease this heavy burden that has been imposed on them. We must unleash domestic energy production to bring down soaring gas prices which are negatively affecting small businesses.

Protecting Domestic Abuse Survivors

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce, held a markup this Wednesday on various bills including H.R. 7132,  Safe Connections Act. The bipartisan legislation, which I have cosponsored, would support domestic abuse survivors by ensuring they are able to stay connected to their current phone lines without having to worry about high fees and contracts. I was pleased that this important piece of legislation was moved forward. 

Promoting Economic Development

This past week, I had the opportunity to visit the Port of Monroe and continue to assist efforts to clear bureaucratic hurdles and open doors for further economic development with Port Director Paul LaMarre. I applaud their efforts which could lead to job creation and massive economic growth in Monroe County. 

Honoring Hillsdale Native

On Wednesday, I paid tribute to Hillsdale native, Maxine "Max" Randall, who recently passed away at the age of 92. Max played for the Fort Wayne Daisies of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which served as inspiration for the hit movie "A League of Their Own." We offer her family and friends our sincerest condolences and celebrate her remarkable life and legacy that will live on for generations to come.  If you would like to view the full speech, please click here.
