Solving the Border Crisis
Solving the Border Crisis

By an overwhelming 305-102 vote, the House passed a bipartisan bill to provide humanitarian and security relief to the southern border. It now heads to President Trump's desk. The President requested this funding 60 days ago, and it is unfortunate that partisan politics stood in the way of getting this long overdue assistance to the families and border personnel on the front lines of this humanitarian crisis. Now it's time to secure our border, fix our broken immigration laws, and solve this urgent crisis.
Taking Care of Our Heroes

I introduced bipartisan legislation this week to update the VA's prioritization level for former Prisoners of War. The POW Priority Care Act would elevate POWs from Priority Group 3 to Priority Group 1. Former POWs have made unquestioned sacrifices for our country and we must ensure that their care reflects our appreciation for their service.
Combating Unwanted Robocalls
The Subcommittee on Communications and Technology held a markup on the Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, which advanced the legislation along with a provision I helped author. As a member of this panel, I remain committed to cracking down on the nuisance, and often fraudulent nature, of unwanted robocalls. To view my remarks, please click here.
2019 Art Competition Winner
The 2019 Congressional Art Competition Winner, Sarah Mitchell, visited Washington this week. Sarah attends Airport High School in Monroe County and showcased her artistic talents in "Vibrant Bison." Sarah and her family received a tour of the Capitol, and in doing so, saw her artwork displayed in the tunnel from the Cannon Building to the Capitol Visitor Center.
Hosting Eaton Senior Fair
On Friday, we hosted a Senior Resource Fair at the Eaton Area Senior Center in Charlotte. We had a great turnout and I want to thank all the community organizations who participated and also my constituent relations team who helps provide assistance with Medicare and Social Security difficulties. If you or a family member ever have any casework questions, my office is here to help.
