Salute to our Veterans

This week I introduced the Prisoner of War Priority Care Act. The bipartisan bill would assign the highest priority status for hospital care and medical services provided through the Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans who are former prisoners of war. As we celebrate the veterans who have made sacrifices for our country, the work in Congress must carry on, so that we continue to keep our promises to those who have heroically served. Defending Michigan's Energy

The Energy Department forecasts that heating bills will be up to 54% higher this winter and compounding on this news, reports have indicated the Biden Administration is examining a shut down of the Line 5 pipeline. This would cripple the Midwest's energy supply and would be devastating to all those in Michigan and nearby states who rely on it to heat their homes and power their small businesses. I helped lead a letter with my colleague Rep. Bob Latta (R-OH) highlighting the destruction consequences that would take place from such an irresponsible decision. We also went on Fox & Friends Friday morning with Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) to explain the repercussions and talk energy solutions. Click here to watch.

Hearing from You

This week I held community gatherings at Hanover Township Hall in Jackson County and Ida Township Hall in Monroe County. At the top of everyone's mind was the cost of gas, groceries, and the inflation crisis which will be exacerbated by President Biden's continued socialist spending spree. People are worried about putting food on their table and paying their ever-increasing bills. I will continue my work to return to the policies which created positive economic records, not the negative ones President Biden continues to set.

Improving Retirement Savings

The Education and Labor Committee marked up and advanced the RISE Act this week, which is a bipartisan retirement security bill. My good friend and colleague, Rep. Sablan (MP-00) and I have long championed the Retirement Plan Modernization Act which is included in the RISE Act and will reduce the administrative costs for employers sponsoring employee retirement plans. There is still more work to be done, and I look forward with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to continue to promote policies to help Americans retire with peace of mind.

Combating Continued Inflation

The latest inflation numbers continue to worsen. Inflation is up nearly 1% from September and up 6.2% from last year. This is not transitory. Inflation is hitting a 30-year high. From the grocery store to the gas pump, every purchase that costs more is making it harder for American families to get by. This Thanksgiving will be the most expensive ever and will be accompanied by a Christmas plagued by a supply chain crisis. The solution is not to continue with the reckless spending, that is the root problem.
