Restoring Constitutional Rights

There are countless stories from across the country of innocent Americans having property unjustly seized due to abuses within the civil asset forfeiture process. This week, I partnered with Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) to introduce the FAIR Act, which would reform the civil asset forfeiture process, preventing innocent Americans from having their property unjustly seized. This bipartisan legislation would close loopholes in civil asset forfeiture by shifting the presumption of innocence back to the American people and restoring the constitutional rights of Americans to due process.

Honoring a Hillsdale County Veteran

On Monday, my office had the opportunity to honor Brian Peacock from Reading as our Veteran of the Month for February. Brian served in the U.S. Marine Corps and the Michigan National Guard and worked in the Department of Corrections, dedicating almost 5 decades of his life to public service. He also regularly visits veterans at the Hillsdale Medical Care Facility, assists with transporting veterans to VA medical appointments, and serves on the Legion Honor Guard at funerals, parades, and commemorative ceremonies.

If you or someone you know is interested in submitting a nomination for an outstanding veteran in MI-05, please visit my website to submit the application

Empowering Farmers

I had the opportunity to visit Weir Farms and participate in a roundtable with farmers from across Jackson County. To empower farmers like these, I voted for the historic Working Families Tax Cuts legislation that strengthens risk management tools, invests in the farm safety net, and expands agricultural trade and specialty crop programs to help Michigan farmers compete. To further build on this historic relief, President Trump has announced a $12 billion assistance program to help rebuild our farm economy and ensure our farmers have reliable and consistent support.
