Remembering D-Day

Remembering D-Day

On Thursday, we commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when the Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy, marking the beginning of the end of tyranny in Europe. On D-Day, we remember our fallen heroes and we honor those who bravely fought for the pursuit of liberty. May we always honor the tremendous sacrifice and heroism shown that day in defense of liberty and freedom.

Commemorating Local American Hero

This week, I took to the House floor to honor a Jackson legend and American hero, Herb Elfring, who recently passed away at the age of 102. Herb was one of the last known survivors of Pearl Harbor and dedicated his life to helping veterans, including by founding the non-profit One Stop Veteran Resources and mentoring young veterans. He will be remembered for his brave service and patriotism, his commitment to our community, and his life well-lived.

Supporting our Troops

On Wednesday, I voted in favor of, and the House passed the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2025. This legislation fulfills our obligation to care for the men and women who have selflessly chosen to defend our nation. Specifically, it fully funds veterans' health care and benefits, invests in quality-of-life improvements for military families, and provides key funding for deterrence measures in the Indo-Pacific. I was proud to honor our commitment to veterans and bolster our national security by voting for this bill.

Fighting One-Size-Fits-All Regulation

In April, the Department of Labor finalized a rule that would significantly raise the salary threshold for employees to be considered exempt from overtime rules under the Fair Labor Standards Act. On Wednesday, I introduced legislation that would block this disastrous rule from taking effect. My legislation would relieve small businesses, nonprofits, colleges, universities, and other employers from making the tough decision to lay off valuable staff and force salaried workers into hourly positions. Please know I will continue to push back against the misguided policies of the Biden administration that hurt American businesses and workers.
