Bringing Gas Prices Down

When President Biden took office, the national average price of gas was $2.38 a gallon. Sadly, the Biden Administration has undermined American energy production every step of the way, and as a result, hardworking families in Michigan are feeling the pain at the pump. This week, I joined with Americans for Prosperity-Michigan at a locally owned gas station to highlight the ongoing energy crisis and the need for solutions to bring down costs and provide relief. As a member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I will continue to advocate for policies to increase domestic production and put America back on a path to energy independence.

Fighting Inflation

The Bureau of Labor Statistics released its June Consumer Price Index, reporting consumer prices are 9.1 percent higher than the previous year, the highest it has been in more than 40 years. We must combat rampant inflation by reducing big government spending and unleashing American energy. That is why I opposed H.R. 8294, a package of six appropriations bills that would increase our national debt and further contribute to the inflation crisis. I also am a proud cosponsor of the REIN IN Inflation Act, which would require the Biden Administration to publish the inflationary impact of executive actions before enacting them. It is past time to stop reckless spending and curb this inflation that is hurting American families.

Securing the Border

This past June set the record for the most illegal border crossings for any June on record. Since President Biden took office, over 3.1 million illegal immigrants have been apprehended at our southern border. To help address this crisis, this week I have cosponsored H.R. 8028, the Border Construction Materials Transfer Act of 2022. H.R. 8028 would transfer ownership of all construction materials that have already been purchased for improving border security to state governments located on the border. These construction materials sit unused as illegal immigrants continue to cross the border, and instead of using taxpayer dollars to arm guards to protect these materials, individual states should have the ability to build the wall.

Standing for Life

Ever since the Supreme Court’s leaked draft circulated and its final decision was released on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, pro-life organizations and crisis pregnancy centers across the country have been attacked and vandalized. This targeted violence has impacted our district directly with the recent vandalism in Jackson, and I have repeatedly called on Attorney General Garland to crack down on this lawless behavior. In addition, this week I cosponsored a resolution condemning these recent attacks and calling upon the Biden Administration to protect the rights of these organizations which work tirelessly to support our community.

Honoring Lenawee Resident Mike McAran

This week, I took to the House floor to offer my congratulations to Mike McAran as he celebrates his retirement. Mike McAran dedicated 56 years of his career to the education system, including in his most recent roles as superintendent of both the Tecumseh and Morenci Area Schools districts. We thank him for his service to our community and wish him the best of luck in his retirement.
