As Michiganders, we understand how the Great Lakes are more than a natural resource. They are a cornerstone of our way of life. However, in recent years, they have experienced significant threats like invasive species. To protect the Great Lakes from these threats, I have supported federal efforts like the Brandon Road Interbasin Project to keep invasive Asian carp out of the Great Lakes and the Great Lakes Mass Marking Program Act, which I introduced with Representatives Debbie Dingell (D-MI) and Bill Huizenga (R-MI), to preserve the health of our fisheries. I enjoyed stopping by Schupbach's Sporting Goods, a family-owned business that has been operating in Jackson since 1946, to discuss how we can support small businesses like them. The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which was signed into law on our nation's 249th birthday, provides permanent tax relief for Main Street small businesses like Schupbach's. By permanently extending the 20% small business deduction for 30 million small businesses across the country and offering various expensing provisions, the legislation encourages investment in their operations.

I recently was able to visit Ottawa Lake Co-Op and learn more about their vital work providing fertilizer, feed, seed, and grain to support our agricultural community. The One Big, Beautiful Bill will provide businesses like them with the stability and certainty they need by protecting the small business tax deduction. Thank you for letting me stop by!

I had the opportunity to tour Aerospace Services And Products (ASAP) in Hudson. ASAP specializes in aviation maintenance, including inflatable survival equipment, and has been servicing operators in the Great Lakes area since 2000. I enjoyed getting the chance to speak with workers there at the work they do to keep air travel safe.

On August 7, we observed National Purple Heart Day. Created by General George Washington in 1782 as the "Badge of Military Merit," the Purple Heart medal is the oldest military award still presented to service members. We remember and honor the current and former service members who were wounded or killed in action while serving our country heroically. We will forever be grateful for the many sacrifices they have made.
