Line 5 provides safe, secure, and reliable energy across the Midwest. This week, I partnered with Reps. John Moolenaar (MI-02) and Jack Bergman (MI-01) to introduce the Line 5 Act, which would prohibit future administrations from shutting down the pipeline. We need an energy policy that recognizes the job-creating power and increased energy security of pipelines like Line 5, which help keep energy prices low and are the safest and most efficient way to transport energy products. Our energy security and national security depend on it.
Honoring the MI Youth Challenge Graduates
It was a privilege to return again this year to speak to the graduates of the National Guard's Michigan Youth Challenge Academy. Since January, cadets have contributed more than 5,000 hours of community service, providing valuable support to individuals and organizations throughout the Battle Creek area. I was honored to congratulate the graduates and speak to them on finding purpose, overcoming adversity, and following their convictions. Every graduate and their family should be proud of this achievement as they move on to their next chapter.
Holding Universities Accountable
As Chairman of the Education and Workforce Committee, I led my colleagues on the committee in sending a letter to Alan Garber, the President of Harvard University, requesting information about whether the school engages in illegal, discriminatory hiring and employment practices in violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. Numerous publicly available documents produced or published by Harvard suggest that Harvard may have been and may still be unlawfully discriminating with respect to its hiring and employment practices. These practices have no place at our educational institutions.
This week, I had the opportunity to participate in a roundtable in Athens about the benefits of school choice and protecting parental rights. School choice in all its forms – private school, homeschooling, traditional public schools, charter schools, magnet schools, and others – can help parents match educational options to their child’s unique needs. I also had the chance to participate in a press conference last week alongside Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Representatives Burgess Owens (R-UT), Jim Jordan (R-OH), and Byron Donalds (R-FL) to advocate for the Educational Choice for Children Act. This legislation will provide educational freedom to families, who simply want the best for their children.
