Promoting Great Lakes Stewardship
I joined with my colleague Rep. Tim Ryan this week to introduce the Great Lakes Agricultural Stewardship Act, which promotes conservation efforts throughout the Great Lakes region. The bipartisan bill provides federal assistance to Great Lakes states that administer voluntary assurance programs to help farms minimize agricultural pollution risks, like harmful algae blooms on Lake Erie. These efforts, such as the Michigan Agriculture Environmental Assurance Program (MAEAP), have successfully aided farmers in improving conservation, reducing soil erosion, and decreasing nutrient runoff.
Expanding Veterans' GI Bill Benefits
This week the House passed the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Education Assistance Act by a vote of 405-0. The bipartisan bill expands the GI Bill benefits granted to veterans and contains significant reforms, including removing the 15-year limit to use the GI Bill and enabling future eligible recipients to use their benefits at any point in their lives.
Bipartisan Sanctions Bill Passes
This week the House voted 419-3 to impose sanctions on Iran, Russia, and North Korea. The overwhelming vote sends a clear message that provocative actions from these countries and threats to America's interests will not go unanswered
Autonomous Vehicle Legislation Approved
The House Energy and Commerce Committee, on which I serve, approved the SELF DRIVE Act this week by a unanimous vote. This bipartisan bill will help make our roadways safer by establishing a framework to develop self-driving cars and ensures Michigan and the United States remains the innovation leader. The bill will now move to the full House of Representatives for consideration.

I toured Gerdau's steel mill in Monroe this week to see their expanded operations and hear from the hardworking men and women in the steel industry.
