Pelosi's Partisan Boost for China

America Concedes to China

This week, Congress failed to properly hold the Chinese Communist Party to account for human rights abuses and its role in the global pandemic. Instead, Speaker Pelosi's partisan bill passed by the House would weaken our economic competitiveness, hurt American workers, and funnel taxpayer dollars to wasteful projects like a U.N. climate slush fund. America needs to take the China threat seriously, but this unserious bill badly misses the mark. It concedes ground to China, giving them the upper hand. We simply cannot afford to let that happen.

A China Task Force has assembled a report built upon largely nonpartisan, commonsense provisions including legislation I have authored which will take appropriate actions to counter China and take action against their human rights abuses. There are over 400 policy proposals to counter the CCP included in the report.

With the Beijing Olympics commencing this weekend, I can report on a bipartisan effort I joined to urge the Biden Administration to take concrete steps to protect our talented Olympians, including a Jackson County native on the U.S. Hockey Team.  The Olympic Games should be a celebration of athletic endeavors and accomplishments; however, it is imperative to prepare and plan for valid concerns many have for the safety of our athletes. Winter Storm Update

Parts of Michigan's 7th got up to a foot of snow this week. I hope everyone took necessary precautions and has stayed safe. Larger storms always present a reminder to check upon neighbors and to offer assistance to anyone in need. I'm glad many are enjoying the snow like these Jackson residents enjoying sledding at Cascades Park in Jackson. For more winter weather resources, please click here.

Promoting a Skilled Workforce

While in the district, I had a great tour and discussion recently at the Southern Michigan Center for Science and Industry in Hudson. A special thanks to Director Dan Rogers and Superintendent Dr. Osborne for the update and their commitment to providing high quality hands-on educational opportunities. Educating a skilled workforce is crucial for America's future competitiveness, and we're all grateful for this facility in Lenawee County.

Meeting with Jackson Mayor

Recently, it was a pleasure to sit down and to meet with the new Mayor of Jackson, Daniel Mahoney. I appreciated the opportunity to welcome him to the position and discuss a number of important issues impacting the community.

Fighting the Fentanyl Crisis

Once again, we are approaching the expiration of an emergency scheduling classification of fentanyl-related substances which allows law enforcement to properly prevent trafficking. Tragically, fentanyl is now the leading cause of death in Americans 18 to 45, and there are numerous efforts Congress could take to fight this growing issue. One of which is legislation I have cosponsored, the HALT Fentanyl Act, which would permanently place fentanyl-related substances into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act, making it illegal to sell the molecularly-altered fentanyl substance manufactured by criminals. This issue is another reminder why border security should not be a partisan issue.

ICYMI: Biden's First Year Op-Ed

A year after President Biden took office, by every measure, he has broken his central promises. He’s divided us at every turn, hasn’t shut the virus down and made life more expensive for the American people. Inflation is surging, we're facing multiple foreign policy disasters, and new crises have been created solely by Biden Administration policy like at our southern border.
