Meet My State of the Union Guest

Haley Petrowski, an Adrian College student and cyberbullying prevention advocate, was my guest at the President's State of the Union address earlier this week. A lifelong resident of Lenawee County, Haley is a graduate of Adrian High School and the current Miss River Raisin Festival. Haley courageously speaks about her own personal experience dealing with cyberbullying in order to raise awareness about the issue. Click here to read more about her story.

President Trump's message resonated throughout Michigan, speaking to the pocketbook and security concerns of hardworking families in our state. Under this administration's tax and regulatory reform policies, the economy is thriving and making a difference for workers and small businesses. We need to build on this strong foundation and continue expanding jobs and paychecks. To keep America safe, we need to enhance border security and fix our broken immigration system. There is also important work ahead to rebuild our infrastructure, strengthen skills-based education, and combat the deadly opioid crisis. These are goals we can all get behind. Let's tackle them together and forge a brighter future for all Americans.

Working to Lower Health Care Costs

Instead of eliminating employer-sponsored coverage, as some have proposed, we should be looking for ways to deliver more choices and lower health care costs. One example is expanding access to association health plans (AHPs), which empower small businesses to band together to negotiate for lower costs on behalf of their employees. Watch my questions at this week's Education and Labor Committee hearing.

Meeting with Student Anti-Drug Groups

This week I had the pleasure of meeting with an inspiring group of students from Most Teens Don't in Jackson and SRSLY Chelsea, SRSLY Dexter, and SRSLY Manchester. These young people are leaders in their schools working to prevent substance abuse among their peers.

Remembering John Dingell

Adrian College

I count it a privilege to have served with John Dingell in the House and to represent a part of his former district. He was a towering figure in this institution and left a mark that few can match. Throughout his lifetime of public service, John was a fierce advocate for the people of Michigan and was guided by a love of country. In this hour of mourning, may God provide comfort to Debbie and the entire Dingell family.
