Meet David Johnson

It was my honor to have Cassopolis Village President David Johnson as my guest for the President’s State of the Union address. Under his leadership, Cassopolis has earned the Community Excellence Award from the Michigan Municipal League and has drawn in international investments leading to more jobs. David Johnson embodies the success of Small Town America and has transformed his community. We must follow this blueprint for success by boosting our industrial sector, developing a skilled and modernized workforce, and fostering an environment that attracts economic investment.

State of the Union Reaction

President Biden’s view of the State of the Union stands in stark contrast to the reality Americans are facing. Real wages have been down for 21 consecutive months and families have spent an extra $10,000 in average over the past two years due to the economic crisis that President Biden's far-left policies have created. His policy failures have also threatened our energy sector and jeopardized our national security. I remain committed to working with my colleagues to reverse course and address these crises, in turn lessening the burdens on hardworking Americans.  Click here to read my full reaction.

Addressing an Education System in Crisis

On Wednesday, the Education & the Workforce Committee held our first hearing of the 118th Congress on the education crisis in America. My lines of question included bringing down the cost of higher education and protecting the rights of parents. Ginny Gentles, a witness testifying, gave insight into the need to safeguard the rights of parents and highlighted my PROTECT Kids Act. Additionally, I joined Newsmax this week to discuss the PROTECT Kids Act

Meeting with Law Enforcement

This week, I met with Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough and had the opportunity to hear about issues that the local community is facing. We also had a chance to discuss how the fentanyl crisis is affecting our community and the importance of securing the border to keep our communities safe. In keeping with our Commitment to America, the House has already passed legislation to support our brave law enforcement officers and I will continue to be a partner for all those who defend our communities.

Strengthening Grid Security

In 2022, attacks on our power grid rose to an all-time high. In response, on Tuesday, the House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a joint subcommittee hearing on lowering energy costs and strengthening supply chains and resiliency. More action is necessary to protect our critical energy infrastructure and ensure that Americans are connected to the energy they rely on every day. I plan to introduce legislation that will promote energy security by ensuring our grid is secure from outside threats.
