From Lake Michigan to Erie

Protecting the Great LakesOn Tuesday, I had the opportunity to tour Warren Dunes State Park in Sawyer and hear from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources about invasive species that threaten Michigan’s ecosystem, coastal erosion, and recent developments. I had the opportunity to share some of our conservation efforts helping areas like Pointe Mouillee State Game Area flourish. Growing up, I visited Warren Dunes State Park frequently and know very well the critical role our Great Lakes play in our way of life. I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to protect and preserve the well-being of the Great Lakes for future generations. |
Visiting Marshall SchoolsThis week, I had the opportunity to sit down and hear from Marshall school administrators, board members, and teachers. In 1835, Marshall residents developed a school system that became a model, inspiring communities across the country. As a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, I understand the impacts of learning loss and the need to recover that loss as our children’s education directly impacts how we will compete globally. |
Touring Local ManufacturersAcross Michigan's 5th District, manufacturing plays a pivotal role in not only our local economy but global supply chains. Recently, I had the pleasure to tour three manufacturers including Shepherd Hardware Products in Three Oaks, Modineer, and Pratt Intermodal Chassis, both in Niles. I was able to discuss with them the importance of developing our workforce, strengthening our supply chain, and combating record-breaking inflation. I am proud to support Michigan’s workers and manufacturing sector, which provides critical materials and good-paying jobs to our community. |
Supporting Local Law EnforcementOn Thursday, I sat down with Berrien County Sheriff Bailey to discuss supporting law enforcement and experiences in the western side of Michigan's 5th District. Recently, we commemorated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and every day I express my sincerest gratitude to these heroes who work tirelessly to protect our communities. These men and women deserve our utmost respect for the sacrifices they make every day to keep our families safe. |
Advocating for Energy IndependenceEnergy will be a top priority in the new session of Congress, and I recently joined my Republican colleagues on the Committee on Energy and Commerce to participate in a roundtable regarding the burdens Americans are facing due to high costs. I have been hearing from constituents all across Michigan’s 5th District who are struggling to afford fuel to heat their homes, afford gas for their daily commute, or operate their farms because of the war President Biden has waged on American energy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to unleash domestic energy production and lower prices for hardworking Americans. |
